Why a Holiday Home with Boat in Sweden Is So Special
With your own boat, the Swedish lake becomes part of your holiday: head out for a short morning trip, go fishing or discover a quiet bay together. With Sweden's many lakes, having a boat opens up a completely different way to experience the surrounding nature.
However, not every boat is the same. Depending on the holiday home, you may have access to a rowing boat, canoe or motorboat. Some boats are already included in the rental price, while others can be booked additionally. It is therefore worth checking the facilities and conditions of the individual holiday home carefully.
A holiday home in Sweden with boat combines nature, water and freedom. Whether you are planning a relaxing boat trip, a fishing excursion or a paddle together, a boat lets you discover the surrounding area from a completely different perspective.
Discover the Lake from the Water
With a boat, you can explore bays, islands and stretches of shoreline that are often difficult or impossible to reach from land.
Perfect for Fishing
For many anglers, a boat is especially useful for reaching different parts of a lake and changing fishing spots whenever needed.
Rowing Boat, Canoe or Motorboat
Depending on the holiday home, you may have access to a traditional rowing boat, a canoe or a motorboat. Some properties even offer several different types of watercraft.
Boat Trips Directly from Your Holiday Home
If the boat is located directly at the holiday home or at a private jetty, you can head out on the water whenever you like – without having to visit a boat rental or organise a separate excursion.
Check whether the boat is already included or needs to be booked separately and whether it is a rowing boat, canoe or motorboat. With motorboats, additional rental fees, a deposit or fuel costs may apply. You will also find information about life jackets and boat use in the individual property description.
Is the Boat Included with the Holiday Home?
With a holiday home in Sweden with boat, the included facilities can vary considerably. At some properties, a rowing boat or canoe is already included free of charge, while a motorboat often needs to be booked separately.
Before booking, it is therefore worth checking which type of boat is available, whether additional costs apply and where the boat is located. You will find the individual conditions directly in the description of each holiday home.
Rowing Boats or Canoes Often Included
At many holiday homes, a simple rowing boat or canoe is already part of the facilities. You can use it during your stay without having to visit a boat rental every time you want to head out on the water.
Motorboats Often Available to Book Separately
A motorboat is not automatically included in the rental price. Depending on the holiday home, it may be available for an additional charge. A separate boat deposit or fuel costs may also apply.
Jetty, Life Jackets & Boat Use
Also check whether the boat is located directly at the holiday home or at a nearby jetty, whether life jackets are provided and which instructions apply to the use of the individual boat.

Which Boat Is Right for Your Holiday Home Stay in Sweden?
A holiday home in Sweden with boat can offer very different possibilities. For a peaceful trip on the lake, a traditional rowing boat is often all you need, while kayaks are ideal for actively exploring small bays and quiet stretches of shoreline. If you want to cover longer distances or head out specifically for fishing, a motorboat may be the better choice.
That is why we describe as clearly as possible which type of boat is available and whether it is included or can be booked additionally. This helps you decide before booking which holiday home best matches your plans on the water.
Rowing Boat
A traditional rowing boat is available at many Swedish holiday homes by the lake. It is ideal for relaxed outings, short trips on the water and – depending on the lake – also for a peaceful fishing trip.
Kayak & Canoe
Kayaks and canoes are ideal if you want to explore the surrounding area actively and close to nature. On calm lakes in particular, they are perfect for discovering bays, shorelines and small islands.
Pedal Boat
A pedal boat is particularly suitable for relaxed shorter trips close to the holiday home. Families especially appreciate the simple way to spend some time together on the water.
Motorboat
A motorboat allows you to cover longer distances and reach different parts of a lake or the coast. Depending on the holiday home, the motorboat may be included or available to book separately.
Which Boat Actually Comes with the Holiday Home?
The term “holiday home with boat” simply means that a boat is available or can be booked. The individual property description is therefore important: there you will find information about boat type, motorisation, costs, deposits, life jackets and use. If a particular type of boat is especially important to you, you are also welcome to ask us before booking.
The Biggest Boat Is Not Always the Best Choice
For a peaceful evening trip or a short fishing excursion, a rowing boat can be perfectly sufficient. If you want to explore larger lakes or travel longer distances, a motorboat may be more suitable. Weather, wind, the size of the waterway and your own experience on the water should also be taken into account when choosing.
Frequently Asked Questions About Holiday Homes in Sweden with Boat
From boat deposits and fuel to life jackets and licences: here you will find answers to important questions about a holiday home in Sweden with boat.
As the type of boat, motorisation and conditions can vary from one holiday home to another, always check the information provided for the individual property as well.
1. Is an Additional Deposit Required for the Boat?
For motorboats, an additional boat deposit is usually required. This is paid separately from any deposit that may apply to the holiday home.
For simple rowing boats, canoes or kayaks, an additional boat deposit is normally not required. The exact amount and conditions may vary between properties and are therefore always stated in the individual holiday home description.
2. Are Enough Life Jackets Provided for the Boat?
As a rule, yes. Our property owners are asked to provide life jackets in different sizes for the boats belonging to the holiday home.
Especially if you are travelling with children or need a particular size, we still recommend checking with us again before arrival. This allows us to make sure that suitable life jackets are available for everyone travelling with you.
3. Do I Need to Refuel the Motorboat Before Departure?
For our motorboats, a simple rule usually applies: you receive the boat with fuel and return it fully refuelled.
Before departure, the motor tank and, where applicable, the accompanying fuel can should therefore be filled again so that the next guest also receives the boat with a full tank. Any different arrangements are stated for the individual holiday home.
4. Do I Need a Boat Licence in Sweden?
For the small leisure boats offered with our holiday homes, a boat licence is generally not required. In Sweden, leisure boats under 12 metres in length and under 4 metres in width generally do not require a boat licence.
However, you should still have sufficient experience, especially when using a motorboat. This is particularly important when travelling on the sea or on larger bodies of water. Individual property owners may also set their own requirements or ask for proof of boating experience. The conditions of the individual holiday home therefore always apply.
5. Is the Boat Always Included with the Holiday Home?
No, this varies from one holiday home to another. Rowing boats, canoes, kayaks or pedal boats are already included in the rental price at many properties.
Motorboats, on the other hand, are included at some holiday homes and available for an additional charge at others. The individual property description therefore provides the most precise information about boat type, costs and deposits.
6. What Should I Consider Before a Boat Trip?
Before your first trip, familiarise yourself with the operation of the boat and follow the property owner's instructions. Important factors include weather, wind, load capacity and local conditions on the water.
Life jackets should be worn while using the boat. On unfamiliar waters or when travelling at sea, we recommend planning cautiously and avoiding a boat trip when weather conditions are unfavourable.
