Astrid Lindgren World
is it really worth visiting?
If you’re planning a family trip to Sweden, you’ll almost certainly come across
Astrid Lindgrens Värld
And the big question is: Is it actually worth it?
We visited the park ourselves in 2025 with our two children (5 and 6 years old) – so here’s an honest and practical perspective.
Not a typical theme park – and that’s exactly why it works
If you expect roller coasters or rides, you’ll be surprised.
Astrid Lindgren World works completely differently:
- live theatre performances throughout the day
- detailed, walkable story environments
- kids moving freely through the scenes
You’re not just watching – you’re part of it.
Suddenly, Pippi Longstocking is right in front of you, Emil is running across the yard, and the stories feel real instead of staged.
That’s what makes it special.
How much time do you need?
This is where many people underestimate the park.
Realistically:
- plan at least one full day
- ideally two days if you want to see everything
We noticed it ourselves:
It’s almost impossible to watch all shows in one day.
Opening times & season
The park is open daily from May 13 to August 16.
Additionally, there are selected opening days in late summer and autumn.
Good to know:
- tickets are not tied to a specific date
- multi-day tickets are valid on consecutive days
- you can upgrade your ticket on-site
That flexibility is very helpful when traveling with kids.
New in 2026
A redesigned Birkenlund area will open on June 19, 2026.

Is Astrid Lindgren World really worth it? (honest review)
We visited in 2025 with our two kids (5 and 6 years old).
Our honest impression:
👉 It’s not a classic theme park with rides.
👉 But that’s exactly what makes it special.
The shows were surprisingly well done – very detailed, emotional, and engaging for children.
Even as adults, we were impressed by the atmosphere and how much effort goes into every scene.
One thing to mention honestly:
– The park is not cheap.
But:
– For us, it was absolutely worth it.
Our kids loved it – and so did we.
Our personal tip (important!)
If you can choose your travel time: avoid peak season
We recommend:
- May
- or September
Benefits:
- fewer visitors
- more relaxed experience
- often lower prices
This makes a huge difference, especially with kids.
Why a holiday home makes your trip much better
After a full day in the park, most families don’t want:
- fixed dinner times
- crowded hotels
- limited space
With a holiday home, you get:
- more space
- flexible schedule
- quiet surroundings
- nature right outside
That’s why many families enjoy their stay much more.
Conclusion
Astrid Lindgren World is not a place you just “visit quickly”.
It’s an experience that works best if you take your time.
The mix of:
- storytelling
- nature
- and freedom for kids
makes it one of the most unique family attractions in Sweden.
Combined with a holiday home nearby, it becomes more than a day trip –
it turns into a memorable Sweden holiday.
